Last night 'Lucky Country' took a trip to Childers Paragon Theatre.
Walking into the theatre I was instantly taken by the beauty of the space. It's high ceiling, it's amazing natural acoustic, I was in heaven! In fact, the space had such an effect on me that I instantly decided to perform a 'one off' special intimate version of the show. Instead of performing the usual full length cabaret, we opted to perform as many songs as I could muster from the great Australian songbook. This included greats from Dragon, AcDc INXS, John Farnham, Colin Hay, Tripod, Scared Weird Little Guys and probably many more.
In one of the opening exchanges with the audience I let them know, 'tonight is one off folks, anything can happen tonight...' and boy did it, what followed was truly a night to remember! You can catch some live bootleg footage from the Paragon's Theatre Facebook here:
To everyone that came along and bought tickets- thankyou for a wonderful night!
Earlier this year I made the decision to spend more time touring places that were, well, more 'off the map...' Last night's visit to the Paragon only reaffirmed this desire in me. I've been all around the world, performed a sold out show on Broadway, I've even tripped up a stage during an Internationally televised performance at the 2004 AFL Grand Final... But last night reminded me that our industry was built by bands and artists that took their music all around the country, one small town at a time... Remember that time? Back before stadium tours and Itunes... I'm not being negative or nostalgic... Just inspired!
Time to take the music to the streets! Yes, even that one main street in Childers...
